I feel like sports and being active have always been a huge part of my life since I was young. I grew up playing the usual youth sports and continued playing in high school. In my senior year of high school I found that I had a tumor in my right femur and had to have major surgery to replace most of the femur. A metal rod, some pins, screws, a 13 inch scar and 12 months on crutches later, I was finally able to begin the process of rehab only to find out another surgery was needed. Finally realizing my dreams of sports in college were no longer a reality I began finding other things to stay active. I really found a love for weight training and continued that in my teaching and life. I feel like CrossFit has given me the confidence and competition that I missed out on in sports that I didn’t get a chance to do due to my surgeries.
After college I went in to teaching right away. I have been teaching high school PE and Health and coaching a variety of sports since 2005 and have loved every moment of it. I truly believe that teaching is what I will do for the rest of my life and enjoy being a positive role model for my students. I have always been into finding new ways for students to enjoy personal fitness and when I saw the CrossFit Games on tv in 2011, I was hooked and there was no turning back. I began on my own and finally decided to join CrossFit Beloit in June of 2013. Through my CrossFit experience I have gained a new family and a new outlook on what fitness is and could never go back to the regular weight lifting I had once been doing.
Finding enjoyment with fitness is what makes people want to be around it for life and I truly believe that CrossFit does that. As a coach I love seeing people accomplish goals and things they never thought they could do. The environment at CrossFit Beloit always allows for people to reach those goals and strive for new ones.
