Stop it with the Cardio Already!

Ask your self this question, "How much good does a cardio work out do me?" If you are like most people you think that spending an hour on an elliptical machine will melt away fat because that is what the common logic is. But guess what? It won't. That may sound like a bold statement but I myself have experimented with this very concept. I did cardio kickboxing an hour 4 to 5 times a week with a healthy diet for a year and lost about 5 lbs which came back quickly. Read the article below for why this is the case.

Friends Don’t Let Friends Do Cardio!

Now...I am not here to tell you to stop running, biking, or swimming long distances if that is something you truly enjoy (I don't think anyone can honestly say they enjoy long bouts on an eliptical or some other mindless hamster wheel). But if you are doing these activities to lose weight...you are wasting effort.

What should you do.  Sprint hard and fast, lift heavy objects, and constantly change what you do. I am living proof. I lost 40 lbs in a 5 month span and kept it off. I have put on weight but that is in muscle. I can lift heavier weights (went from a 275 lb to a 400 lb deadlift in a year) and I run a sub 18 minute 5k. Lets see cardio give results like that!

New Year's Eve Bash!

If ever you wondered how a bunch of CrossFitters in Beloit spend New Year's Eve, your question is now answered.

Why spend an evening in a nice house when you can spend it in a garage doing a squat for 10 minutes?...possibly in a dress [enter the modesty pilllow]...

...or when you can do pull-ups in a sparkly party dress? Good thinking to remove the heels...

...clearly, we are a pretty awesome bunch of people!

Thank you Andy & Kayley for throwing an awesome party!

The CrossFit Games Open

Guess what everyone...It is time to test what we have been working so hard at.  Yes the 2012 CrossFit Games Open is here!  Registration begins February 1st and the workouts become avialble February 22nd.  The open is the first step to qualifying for the Games.  The top 60 people from each region in the Open qualify for the Regional event and the top 3 from Regionals make it to the CrossFit Games.  There will also be team events as well.  It is a great chance to see where your fitness level is compared to a large pool of people.

Also a few of the CrossFit Beloiters will be making the trip this weekend to compete in the IceBowl in Greenbay.  It is the first Event of the 2012 Garage Games.  The next two events take place the first two weekends in February at Badger CrossFit in Wauwatosa and CrossFit Naperville in Aurora.  There are beginner, scaled, and Rx'd divisions.  Register today!
