There was a time when I enjoyed running and obstacle course racing. I had signed up for the Spartan Trifecta but wasn’t really sure how to train for it and do well - I wanted to do more than just finish.

I watched a CrossFit documentary about the Games, saw all the different movements these amazing humans were so good at, and thought, that’s it. That’s what will get me where I want to be. I scheduled my baseline and got my ass handed to me even though I was already in good shape.

That was the end, or perhaps the beginning as that’s when I knew this was how I wanted to train from then on. As I learned more and continued to go to class regularly I realized I liked sharing the tidbits and ways I was learning to be more efficient in workouts with other people. I also realized I wanted to know more about the methodology and how CrossFit came about. I asked Scott if getting an L1 was beneficial even if you weren’t a coach. He asked if I had thought about coaching.

I got my L1 in December of 2018 and the rest is history! I love helping people with progressions and getting them to do a movement they could not do before. It’s an incredibly rewarding feeling, especially if that person thought they would never be able to do that. It can be as simple as getting them to do a squat on their own, or a push-up all the way to a muscle up. People think it would be great to get people to the Games but the real reward is helping people continue to move throughout their lives. To continue my education and push myself further, I went on to pursue my L2 certification in December of 2023.

Fell in love with them all when CrossFit introduced them to me. But snatch if I had to pick one. One of the most complex movements I’ve ever learned and still don’t have it right.

PRs:
295 lbs for 20 reps on my back squat. 20 reps at a heavy weight are grueling! Highly recommend trying it as long as you’ve had the proper instruction.
