The 2014 Nutrition Challenge starts this monday and here are the things you will need. First off you will need to log all of your meals. This maybe the hardest part of the challenge. Please keep a journal of what you eat so that you can fill out the spreadsheet daily. This spreadsheet will be submitted weekly (via email to coach@crossfitbeloit.com) to stay eligible for the nutrition prizes.
There are multiple ways you can eat during this challenge. To gain the most points you need to eat Zone Paleo. Which is to say that you eat paleo foods and you also eat them in portions that equal 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats in each meal. Eating Zone Paleo will net you 3 points per meal and requires weighing and measuring of your meals.
For 2 points per meal you can eat Paleo. These are: meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar. There is a lot of debate of what is paleo so for this challenge it means: Meat is minimal processing, Vegetables are fresh or frozen and not from a can, Nuts and Seeds are raw and not salted or processed, and your fruit is fresh and not canned.
A zone meal will net you 1 point. When you are eating zone you can eat anything you want including ice-cream. However the portions of the meal have to equate to 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat. Good luck with that.
A cheat meal, which means you fell off the wagon, equals minus a point. Be honest. You are not human if you don't cheat. A good rule of thumb would be to give yourself 1 meal or even day to blow your skirt up and eat like crap, but please reflect on how it made you feel. It will give you motivation going forward!
For more info please read the following and ask me any questions you have. Also I have included the Zone Block Calculator. Just enter how many blocks you need per meal and it will puke out the measurements of the foods you can eat. Everyone in the challenge should be at a 4 Blocks per Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. If you are a bigger person eat 2 Blocks per snack, smaller people under 150 lbs only eat 1 block per snack.
This is a challenge to change things for good. In the past I have seen over 8 individuals go from obese to slim and trim from the CrossFit Beloit Nutrition Challenge. It is the 3rd year of the challenge and I am hopeful to see the results grow exponentially. Will it be you??
Measurements and photos will be this Saturday at 9 am after the wod at 8am. Also the gym will be open at 2 pm on Sunday. If you are not able to make those times please email coach@crossfitbeloit.com to set-up a time.
