CrossFit Beloiters take home two wins at Garage Games, Battle in the Burbs!

Congrats to Andy & Kayley, who both won their divisions at the Garage Games, Battle in the Burbs this past Saturday! Along with two frist place winners, Zach & Mac also made it in the top of their divisions, which meant they also advanced on to the 3rd WOD!

Kayley killin' the sled push, winning the 3rd WOD

Congrats to everyone else who competed as well! CrossFit Beloit knows how to represent!

WOD 1        5 rounds of:

  • 10 burpees
  • 1 bear complex with lunges using a sandbag.

WOD 2          for time of:

  • Lift 5,000 lbs ground to overhead (I liked how they did this. A competitor was able to select the weight they wanted to use however the total amount lifted needed to equal 5,000 lbs.  So if you choose 135 lbs you had 37 reps but at 95 lbs you needed to complete 53 reps).
  • 1,000 m row to finish it off.

Final WOD             mini-chipper consisting of:

  • Transfer weight to sled
  • Sled push down and back
  • broad jumps across gym
  • 50 Wall balls
  • Run back to sled
  • Unload weight from sled and transfer back across room

I want to thank CrossFit Naperville and The Garage Games for putting on an outstanding event.  Not only was the competition stiff but the event ran extremely smooth...out of there before 5 pm.  Pretty good for hosting well over 140 competitors!

What should I eat?

Check out this blog! Especially you Nutrition 'Chalange' people! Aside from good recipes, it explains, in easy to understand terms, why you should & shouldn't eat certain things!

Not to mention, the meatballs look mighty tasty!

What Should I Eat?

In simple language, base your diet on garden vegetables, especially greens, lean meats, some nuts and seeds, some starch in the form of root vegetables and tubers, and no sugar. Removing gluten from the mix will improve a deluge of metabolic and autoimmune disorders that are widespread. That's about as simple as it gets. Keeping your grocery cart to the perimeter of the grocery store while avoiding the aisles is a great way to protect your health. Food is perishable. The stuff with long shelf life is all suspect. If you follow these simple guidelines you will benefit from nearly all that can be achieved through nutrition

What Foods Should I Avoid?

Excessive consumption of processed and refined foods, is the primary culprit in nutritionally-caused health problems (high blood pressure and triglycerides, obesity, cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disorders like MS, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, IBS). Food refining has brought us all four of the food toxins destroying our health: white flour, white sugar & HFCS (high fructose corn syrup),industrial seed oils and processed soy products. It has also brought us chemical additives and preservatives, some with known negative effects and others with effects still unknown.

What Is The Problem With High-Glycemic Carbohydrates?

The problem with high-glycemic carbohydrates is that they give an inordinate insulin response. Insulin is an essential hormone for life, yet acute, chronic elevation of insulin leads to hyperinsulinism, which has been positively linked to obesity, elevated cholesterol levels, blood pressure, mood dysfunction and a pandora's box of disease and disability. Research "hyperinsulinism" on the Internet. There's a gold mine of information pertinent to your health available there. response.

The Caveman or Paleolithic Model For Nutrition

Modern diets are ill suited for our genetic composition. Evolution has not kept pace with advances in agriculture and food processing resulting in a plague of health problems for modern man. Coronary heart disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, obesity and psychological dysfunction have all been scientifically linked to a diet too high in refined or processed carbohydrate. Search "Google" for Paleolithic nutrition, or diet. The return is extensive, compelling, and fascinating. You will improve health, appearance and longetivy when eating fresh, unprocessed whole foods.
